Ask & Record toolbar not installing on Win 7

Hi, Had Freecorder on Vista 32bit, Firefox 3.5.1 working fne. Upgraded to Win 7 RC 32bit, firefox 3.5.3 and the Ask & Record toolbar install ends with the "Can't install because there is another ASK toolbar installed on your system".
This is a Fresh install of Win 7 32bit !!
Reviewing the posts there are some members that have installed the Ask & Record toolbar on Win 7 so I'm confused on the actualy issue here.
Please could Applian Support provide steps on what users should do in the event of this message.

Hi, I to have installed windows 7 on my laptop and had the same problem. However what I have discovered, is that I had to disable my sound drivers which then allowed me to install the tool bar, which is working fine (I have reinstalled my sound drivers) and still no problems. The only issue I had is that it would not record videos from any websites. What I have done here, is installed google chrome and access things like you tube from here, and it seems that having google chrome installed, the record function works perfect. Hope this helps.

Thanks budwiser232, I tried disabling sound drivers and installing and I get the same error - "Can't install because there is another ASK toolbar installed on your system".

Any help from Applian Support?

We have seen this problem with the latest browser versions. We are awaiting a new toolbar build from Ask that will fix this. They have told us to expect this new build near the beginning of November. Please check back then.

Also Ask does not officially support Windows 7 as of yet.

Thanks for update, is there anything I can do as workaround until then? Not much time before Win 7 is released, will you be supporting it then or later in the future?

Our programs have been tested with Windows 7 and we have not had any issues. The recording utilities will work but the toolbar may not install properly. I will get in touch with Ask and find out when they plan on having this be compatible. Some people have worked around this by creating shortcuts to the recording components within the toolbar. Search the threads if you need info on how to do this.

Thanks Tasha, I've installed the firefox IE tab to get the record buttons, but what about the settings, how do I get access to them. Also the Ask & Record toolbar is not displayed in IE 8 and not selectable as a toolbar options. How do I get it listed in IE 8?

I have been using the ask & record tool bar on Windows 7 for quite a while now with no problems at all. When you are trying to install, when you get the message that there is another Ask toolbar installed, click the red cross on the top right hand corner, and you should then get a windows message with 2 options. Select the one that says, install using recomended settings and then reinstall the toolbar. This will reinstall with no probelms and works fine with IE8, this is what I have done and had no issues at all.

I found a quick way around the issues (with some reading of other posts).
I made shortcuts to the .EXE files for Ask & Record, I made two - AARRecord.EXE and AARSettings.EXE, these work fine when double clicking them, the shortcuts were put into the programs toolbar (bottom left hand side).

Know when I need to record I just click on the icon for AARRecord.EXE. This actually works better than having the icons in firefox as sometime audio streams open in new windows without the icons and with the icons in the program bar I have full view of them at all times.
