IMPORTANT: The Enhanced Sound Card driver is not intended for use in Replay A/V 8.3 and newer. Please uninstall the Ehnahced Sound Card driver unless you are running an older version of Replay A/V or Replay Radio.

The Enhanced Sound Card Driver option for Replay Radio and Replay A/V has many benefits for improving audio recordings, and a few drawbacks. This page tells you what to expect when using this option, as well has how to use it.

IMPORTANT: The Enhanced Sound Card Driver requires Replay AV 8.21 or older or Replay Radio 5.1 or later.

Advantages of the Enhanced Sound Card Driver

The Enhanced Sound Card Driver works by mimicking a sound card on your PC, trapping sounds, and then sending those sounds to the default sound card. In most cases, this works perfectly.

When recording with the Enhanced Sound Card Driver, you'll enjoy these bonuses:

• Cleaner, distortion-free recordings.
• Support for more sound cards.
• Sounds from other programs, including system noises, are eliminated from recordings.
• The Mute While Recording option will work on all PCs.

Note: Enhanced Sound Card Driver doesn't apply when recording using the "Capture by Downloading + Stream Capture" method in Replay A/V. Stream Capture recordings are always perfect quality reproductions.

Disadvantages of the Enhanced Sound Card Driver

Here are some problems you may run into:

• Recording is more processor intensive. Users with slower processors may find recordings that would work well using other Recording Sources may skip, or the VU meter and recording timer may not update as they should (rare).
• Some unexplainable side-effects of these drivers have been noticed. Some programs may not run or install properly when the drivers are loaded (rare).
• Won't support Windows Server 2003.
• Can't be active when using Skype.

Ensuring the Enhanced Sound Card Driver Option is Installed

In Replay A/V 8, it's easy to see if the Enhanced Sound Card Driver option is installed. Here's how:

1. If you just installed the Enhanced Sound Card Driver, make sure Replay A/V is closed.
2. Open Replay A/V.
3. Click File, Settings from the menu.
4. Go to the Sound Mixer tab.
5. If Enhanced Sound Card Driver is installed, you'll see a screen like this (minus the red rectangle):
   
   
   
   

Using the Enhanced Sound Card Driver

Once you've installed the Enhanced Sound Card Driver, you can use it by choosing Enhanced Sound Card Driver as an Audio Recording Method as follows:

For Replay A/V, use these steps:

1. Open Replay A/V.
2. Click a show, and choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
3. Click the Recording tab.
4. Enhanced Sound Card Driver only applies if you are using "Capture by Recording Audio Output". Here's how it would be set up:
   
   
   
   

For Replay Radio, use these steps:

1. Open Replay Radio.
2. Double-click on a show in your list.
3. Next to Audio Recording Method, you should see "Enhanced Sound Card Driver" as an option at the top of the list.

This option is available no matter what Sound Card is set in Replay Radio's settings.

Note: When using the Test Methods button in Replay A/V or Replay Radio, the Enhanced Sound Card Driver will not appear as a recommended recording method. This is normal. Just select it as your audio recording method as described above.

Record Audio From Speakers / Quick Record Hints

If you're going to be using the Replay A/V 8 "Record Audio from Speakers" or the Quick Record feature, be sure to start the recording session before opening the playback program. For example, to record from Windows Media Player using the Enhanced Sound Card Driver option, you would:

1. Ensure Windows Media Player is closed.
2. Start the recording session. In Replay A/V 8, go to the Record menu, and select Record Audio From Speakers.
3. Set the rest of your recording parameters and click OK.
4. Open Windows Media Player.
5. Play the audio to record.

Uninstalling the Enhanced Sound Card Driver

If you find the Enhanced Sound Card Driver does not work for you, you can uninstall it using Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
